FORT WORTH – The city has received $90 million from the Texas Water Development Board to fund flood mitigation improvements along the Upper Lebow Channel.

The project addresses long-standing flooding issues caused by an undersized, 75-year-old channel by adding a 20-acre detention basin and rehabilitating approximately one- and one-half acres of existing channel to increase capacity and reduce erosion.

Scope of work includes upgrades to nine bridges, reconstruction of eight culverts, construction of 16 headwalls and stream restoration, with integrated multi-use greenspace and erosion control vegetation.

The improvements are expected to reduce flood risk for drivers and approximately 300 homes within the 100-year floodplain.

Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
