HOUSTON – The city has received a $966 million loan from the Texas Water Development Board to replace the East Water Purification Plant.

The facility at 2324 Federal Rd. is divided into three sections with plants Nos. 1 and 2 built in the 1950s and plant Nos. 3 developed in the 1980s.

The project, which supplies water to 75 percent of Houston residents, is estimated to cost $3.3 to $4.2 billion.

Construction is expected to begin in 2029 and be completed by 2034.
