HOUSTON – Houston ISD will implement a $40 million capital improvement plan to upgrade HVAC and roofing systems at 36 campuses during the 2025–26 school year.

Funded through a $120 million maintenance tax note, the work includes replacing chillers, boilers, and ventilators to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency.

Roof improvements at 13 schools will use weather-resistant, code-compliant materials to prevent leaks and damage.

The district estimates $12.3 billion in capital needs over the next decade and may revisit new bond proposals in future elections.

Bids for the upcoming projects are expected by late 2025.
