Rice University’s $120M Gateway Project in the works
HOUSTON – Rice University is planning a $120 million Gateway Project to redevelop the west side of campus and create a new connection between Rice Stadium and Rice Village.
The project will extend Amherst Ave. E to a new campus entrance near Entrance 13A, creating a pedestrian corridor with new drainage, sewer, and water infrastructure.
The corridor is planned to support future retail, multifamily, restaurant and grocery uses.
The plan includes a new public greenspace for community events and performances.
Demolition of the Greenbriar Annex building will clear space for the new corridor and mixed-use improvements, and the existing inflatable practice facility will be removed to create new greenspaces and the pedestrian pathway.
Additionally, Rice Stadium will undergo a major renovation that will add new premium seating and reduce overall capacity.
A new indoor practice facility will also be built.
Construction on stadium and gateway components is expected to begin next year and continue through 2028.
