AUSTIN – LoneStar Airport Holdings LLC unveiled its vision for the long-dormant South Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The 30,000-sf South Terminal—which isn’t connected to the main terminal—has sat empty since a Mexican low-cost airline shut down operations there in 2009.

Now, LoneStar plans to spend $12 million to revamp the facility, energize it with a new look, and convince airlines it can attract a steady stream of passengers.

LoneStar is in talks with airlines it hopes will use the terminal which will be able to handle 36 arrivals and departures per day.

Construction is scheduled to begin July 18 and wrap up in spring 2017.
