Growing southern: Texas cities make ‘fastest-growing’ list

TEXAS – For the first time in five years, Central Texas is not atop the annual U.S. Census list of fastest-growing U.S. cities.

But Texas did continue to dominate the population growth rankings.

This list includes cities and towns with populations of 50,000 or more as of July 1, 2015.

The City of Conroe, located near Houston, increased its population by 7.8 percent between July 2015 and July 2016, ranking tops in the country above Dallas-area suburbs Frisco—6.2 percent—and McKinney—5.9 percent.

Georgetown, which ranked fifth in the latest U.S. Census list with a 5.5 percent growth rate in 2015-16, topped last year’s rankings. 

Prior to that, the list was topped three years in a row by San Marcos, located between Austin and San Antonio.

New Braunfels ranked as the ninth fastest-growing U.S. city, and Cedar Park ranked 12th. 

Other Central Texas cities to make the list include Round Rock (18) and Pflugerville (23).
