Whole-home generators new must-have features for Houston luxury homes
HOUSTON – Whole-home generators are gaining popularity among among affluent local homeowners, particularly in response to frequent extreme weather events in the region.
The number of luxury homes sold with generators increased sevenfold from 2018 to 2023, according to the Houston Association of Realtors.
Prices typically range from $13,000 to $40,000, depending on the size and power needs of the home. Additional factors affecting cost include cooling methods and the need for gas lines or concrete pads.
Professional installation of whole-home generators includes determining a safe location, obtaining city permits, and gaining homeowners association approval. Installation usually takes three to four weeks, but larger units can take longer.
The number of homes sold at any price with installed generators, both whole-home and partial-home, has tripled since 2018, indicating a broader adoption of this technology across different price points.
