TEXAS – U.S. Census Bureau data demonstrate growth in Texas’ suburbs has initiated a population boom adding millions more homes.

Overall, eight of the 15 fastest-growing cities with over 20,000 inhabitants in 2023 are in Texas, and five of them are in Collin County.

North Texas’ Celina topped the list of fastest-growing cities in the nation with a population of 20,000 or more, growing by 26.6 percent.

Meanwhile, population growth in Georgetown slowed from 14.6 percent in 2022 to 10.6 percent in 2023. Similarly, growth in Kyle also decreased by nearly 2 percentage points to 9 percent in 2023.

Houston remained the fourth-largest city with 2.3 million residents and Dallas remained the ninth-largest city with 1.3 million residents, while Fort Worth passed San Jose, California, to become the nation’s 12th most populous city, with 978,000 residents.

San Antonio gained more people than any other city in 2023 with about 22,000 new residents.

The nation’s housing stock of 145.3 million homes grew by 1.1 percent or 1.6 million units from July 2022 to July 2023.

Texas’ 12.4 million housing units trailed California’s 14.8 million units, as Harris, Travis and Collin counties were three of the top five U.S. counties that led in housing unit gains.

Between July 2022 and July 2023, Harris County added 36,000 homes, Travis County added 24,000, and Collin County added 18,000. Tarrant County, ranking eight in the nation, added 17,000 units.
