Dell Medical School to lease old Brackenridge hospital
AUSTIN – The future of the Brackenridge campus in Central Austin has been uncertain since the master developer pulled out of the project.
Owned by Central Health, the 14.3-acre site, nestled between Waller Creek Park and I-35, was once slated for robust redevelopment.
The University of Texas at Austin announced they will lease two of the six blocks for expansion of the nearby Dell Medical School.
The university would lease Block 167, which includes former University Medical Center Brackenridge, as well as Block 164, home to a medical office building on Red River St. south of the parking garage.
Dell Med officials said they would use the move into the existing office and research space in the short term, and could renovate the old hospital or demolish it in the long term.
