AUSTIN – The Texas General Land Office (GLO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to be a non-federal partner for the $34.4 billion Coastal Texas (CTX) Project.

The CTX project is a systemwide risk management strategy to protect Texas’ coastline from South Padre Island to the Bolivar Peninsula.

The project was created as a part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 signed into law to enhance coastal protections and support essential ecosystems and communities.

GLO’s inclusion as a non-federal sponsor means the agency will contribute to eight Coastwide Ecosystem Restoration and South Padre Island Beach Nourishment and Sediment Management measures included in the plan.

These measures account for 114 miles of breakwaters, 15.2 miles of bird rookery islands, 2,052 acres of marsh, 12.3 miles of oyster reef and 22.4 miles of beach and dune.
