Hensel Phelps selected to pilot SAIA expansion

SAN ANTONIO – The city has taken its next step toward a $2.5 billion plan to expand and improve the San Antonio International Airport, locking in a global firm to oversee its $1 billion terminal development plan.

Airport officials have selected Hensel Phelps Construction Co., one of the largest aviation contractors in the world, to be construction manager at risk for the terminal project.

Plans call for a 17-gate concourse and apron with a new Federal Inspection Service area, expansion of elevated roadways, central utility plant enhancements, and a multi-story ground transportation center that will include additional parking.

The project will also include a new ramp to accommodate additional overnight aircraft parking.

The terminal development plan is slated for completion by 2028. Work could begin by late next year or early 2025.​
