HOUSTON – Chicago-based United Airlines began selling tickets to Havana, Cuba, September 1.

The first flight to Havana’s José Martí International Airport is scheduled for Nov. 29.

United will fly to Havana daily from Newark, New Jersey, and on Saturdays from Houston.

The airline received preliminary approval for the flights earlier this summer. They were the only Cuban flights United applied for when the process began earlier this year.

The Department of Transportation formally approved the flights August 31.

Cuba is expected to be a sizable export market for Texas. The $128 billion Cuban economy imports roughly $2 billion worth of agricultural products, which Texans understandably want to capitalize on.
