U.S. – Texas took top state honors and Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston nabbed top metro awards in a national ranking of economic development activity.
Texas, DFW and Houston frequently top Site Selection magazine’s rankings for its "Governor’s Cup" recognition for attracting more capital investment than any other state. And 2016 was no different.
Texas announced 642 projects in 2016 that have a minimum capital investment of $1 million, create 20 new jobs or add at least 20,000 new sf of space.
That’s down from the 702 projects Texas announced in 2015, but still plenty to beat Ohio, which came in second with 515 projects in 2016, and Illinois, which ranked third with 434 projects.
Site Selection’s yearly analyses are regarded by corporate real estate analysts as the industry standard.

- Texas, 642;
